What was your motivation for becoming a Serve Louisiana member?

Back in 2007, I decided to leave my job as a call center customer service representative to pursue my passion as a creative writing teaching artist. I looked into Serve Louisiana and found an opportunity to serve as a member with a teen writing project at the Big Buddy Program, which started my journey toward realizing my dream.

Tell us about your experience.

My time as a member was amazing. Working with my partner organization supervisors and staff, as well as my fellow Serve Louisiana members, instilled the values of community, teamwork and sacrifice that I carry with me to this day.

What did you gain from being a member?

Because of Serve Louisiana, I was able to step into a career realm that has transformed my life in an innumerable number of ways. I can undoubtedly say that if it were not for the opportunity given to me, I may not be in the position I am today. I owe an eternal debt of gratitude to this great organization.
